Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah, and I’m an assistant editor and web editor for Capper’s Farmer magazine. Many of you may already know me from my brief stint as Capper’s Farmer blog manager. But for those of you who don’t, or maybe just didn’t spend as much time chatting with me as others – what can I say? I like to talk! – I’m hoping this blog will provide a space for us to get to know each other and maybe even learn a few new things. I plan on sharing lots of little tidbits about my life here and what I do to live more simply, sustainably, and all-around homemade – I assure you I really do this in real life!
So why is my blog called The Hard Way? Well, it has everything to do with the fact that I almost always choose the more difficult way of doing things. It’s actually a fairly long-standing joke in my family that if given the option of an easy way or a hard way, I will invariably go with the latter. Sure, there are times when I wish I could choose ease and simplicity – I do tend to create a fair amount of stress for myself – but then I wouldn’t have learned to cook by attending one of the best culinary schools in the country; I wouldn’t have learned about where my food actually comes from by working on a farm in the brutal summer heat of North Carolina; and I certainly wouldn’t be here, having moved across the country with my infant son to take this job. While we’re at it, I guess I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t like the appeal of a challenge. As far as I see it, life’s too short to be an inactive participant. Everyday should – and must – be an opportunity to learn, explore, grow and make a difference. And this, my friends, rarely comes from choosing the easy way.
