I love garlic. I love it on pizza and brushchetta, sautéed in soups and stews, and roasted with a lovely chicken. Thankfully, my husband loves it too so I am in good company.

Garlic contains properties for great health benefits. Allicin and diallyl sulfides make garlic a natural antibiotic. Organically grown garlic reportedly shows a higher level of sulphur, which enhances its therapeutic benefits.

To receive the greatest, therapeutic benefit from garlic, it must be used raw. For best results, begin using at the first sign of sickness.

Take 6 to 8 cloves raw, organic garlic (any garlic is better than no garlic, so use what you have).

Mince the garlic. My favorite garlic press is by Pampered Chef; it even peels the skin for you. If you don’t have a garlic press, you can take the flat side of a wide knife and lay it on top of the garlic. Bring your other hand down firmly to crush the garlic under the blade. Repeat and dice, if necessary. Enjoy the lovely fragrance.

Transfer garlic to a food processor. Add 1/4 cup organic coconut oil. Again, organic is best but use what you have. Process until the garlic has been completely incorporated into the coconut oil and it is a smooth, creamy consistency. If you do not have a food processor, just use a fork.

Garlic and coconut oil are extremely beneficial in and of themselves. However, I like to add essential oils as well. Should you decide to do the same, use only essential oils that are labeled pure and therapeutic grade. Many oils are for aromatherapy use only. Check the labels. (To see which brand of oils I use, refer to the end of the article.)

Add 5 drops lavender oil (beneficial for healing; soothes and relaxes; we tend to get tense when we are sick and lavender is very helpful for that)

Add 5 drops eucalyptus oil (beneficial to the respiratory system and helps open up sinuses)

Add 5 drops doTERRA OnGuard (beneficial for boosting the immune system and aids in fighting bacteria and viruses)

Store in a container, preferably glass if you have added essential oils. Be aware that if it is very warm the coconut oil will liquefy and if it is very cold it will turn into a solid. You can store this in the refrigerator but I find more often than not that room temperature is just right at my house.

To use, simply rub on the soles of feet and especially the pads of toes as these contain the reflexes for your sinuses. I recently used this on my 3-year-old daughter who was congested and woke up coughing in the middle of the night. Within a couple of minutes she was breathing clear and able to fall asleep again. Mine did not have the eucalyptus oil in it, so I rubbed it on as an addition to the garlic salve. I was a little stuffy myself and amazed at the speed of how it worked for her, so I added some to my big toe and sure enough, my sinuses opened right up!

Yes, the garlic does smell. Put socks on as soon as it is applied. You can also rub it directly on the chest. Repeat this regimen every two to three hours until condition improves.

NOTE: I use doTERRA essential oils. You can see them on my webpage. Please note I am a member of doTERRA and any purchases made through my website will benefit me directly.
