Family Camping and Fishing Trip

Fishing trips and camping are often part of a family’s summer vacation.

My most memorable camping trip would have to be the fishing trip I went on with my mother, grandmother and three sisters when I was about 9 years old.

We went to a small camping area on Pratt Lake in Michigan. Our tent was an old heavy canvas World War I Army tent made with no floor. When we arrived at our campsite, we set up the tent and stowed our camping gear, and then we proceeded down to the lake. I had brought my fishing rod, and I fished while my sisters swam. The fish were really biting, and it was the first time I caught my limit of 25 blue gills.

The next morning, I found that the fish were not the only thing that had been biting the day before. When I woke, my bottom lip felt strange and swollen, so I showed my mother, who decided I must have been bitten by an insect during the night.

That night, my dad and my oldest sister’s husband showed up, and we sat around the campfire roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. We all had a wonderful time, despite my insect bite.
