A phone call prank confuses a boyfriend.

Once, while my then-boyfriend, who was always ready with a laugh and had a constant twinkle in his eye, was staying at a hotel while on a business trip, I got an idea for a practical joke. I thought it would make his trip less boring, and would also remind him of me, so I acted quickly.

My plan was to play a phone call prank on him at the hotel, so I rehearsed my dialog before going to bed that night. I was so excited to hear his voice that I could hardly sleep that night.

Early the next morning, I called his hotel room. I pinched my nose, and in a high-pitched voice, said, “Good morning. This is room service. Your 72-ounce steak will be arriving in about 10 minutes.”

“What?” he sputtered. “I didn’t order a 72-ounce steak!”

I repeated my line again, and then began describing the tasty side dishes that would accompany the steak, and then told him the price of the meal, making up an expensive amount.

“I didn’t order a steak,” he protested again, as I tried to stifle my giggles.

However, my attempt to continue the conversation failed because I burst out laughing.

“What’s going on?” he asked, then after a brief pause, with suspicion resonating in his voice, said, “Is this Ann?”

I admitted that it was, hoping his sense of humor was indeed what I thought it was. Luckily, it was, and he joined me in laughter.

When he arrived back home, he enjoyed telling the story to all of our friends.
