Use Your Pumpkin Harvest for a Pumpkin Face Mask
Anybody still have pumpkin left in your freezer? We’re down to three quarts after harvesting more than 150 pounds last fall.
We’ve eaten pumpkin every which-way, from waffles to soup to pizza. Here’s another fun way to use up your pumpkin harvest.
As much as I enjoy clomping around the garden in my mud boots, I still do like a little bit of pampering once in a while. I don’t wear make-up or get professional haircuts. But sometimes I do like to do “girly” things. And what better way to be girly than to have a DIY spa-style treatment using homegrown pumpkin?
A large part of our garden space is dedicated to growing pumpkin, and I’m always looking for new ways to use it. Pumpkins have loads of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, which happen to be beneficial for skin. I decided to try to put some of our excess pumpkin to work as a facial. I modified recipes I found online to make a single-use batch.
Ready to pamper pumpkin-style? Here’s what you’ll need:
Pumpkin Face Mask:
2 tablespoons fresh (or canned) pumpkin
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon olive oil
Puree all ingredients in the blender or with a stick blender until smooth.
Blending may not be necessary if using canned pumpkin, you can probably just mix with a spoon, but home-grown pumpkin can be on the chunky side.
Wash (and steam, if you are really ambitious) your face. Apply mask and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove with warm water and a soft cloth. Apply your regular moisturizing lotion. Bask in the glow of your radiant skin!
I know most of you are thinking, “I don’t have time for this!” But it’s only about 5 minutes in the making and 10 or so minutes in the masking. And you are worth it, ladies!
