Hunting and fishing are good for the soul and the body. Both provide exercise and fresh air, and both can be relaxing. At the same time, providing food for your family also gives you a feeling of being self-sufficient. Knowing where your food came from, as well as saving money on groceries, says a lot about these activities.

When we asked readers to share their funniest, best, worst and all-around unforgettable hunting and fishing adventures with us, we had no idea we would receive so many responses. Here are some of our favorite stories, as well as a couple of recipes for fish along with some wild game recipes. Enjoy!

We Want to Hear Your Story

We’re looking for stories about DIY projects — both those that turned out and those that didn’t have such a great outcome. Tell us about the project — where did the idea come from, how did the process go, was it a success or failure, and why? Send us your best or worst DIY project stories, with a photograph or two (jpeg, at least 300 dpi) if available, and we’ll publish our favorites in a future issue. We’ll also feature a few on our Capper’s Farmer website. Email your stories and photos to or send them to Capper’s Farmer Editorial, Attn: Heart of the Home Department, 1503 S.W. 42nd St., Topeka, KS 66609. If you mail your photos to us and would like them back, please send an appropriate-sized self-addressed stamped envelope for their return.
