The winter holidays are a special time for many reasons. Each year, as our family gathers at Thanksgiving, I’m reminded of how grateful I am to be part of such a fantastic family. Then I begin thinking of Christmas — the next time our large group will get together again.
One of the joys of my family’s Christmas celebration is a gift exchange. The excitement over this, for me at least, is that I hand make the majority of the gifts I give, and I wholeheartedly enjoy creating something practical and useful for everyone on my gift-giving list — and hopefully something that will bring a smile to the recipient’s face.
I used to purchase all of my gifts, but several years ago, my sister, best friend and I got into crafting, and we’ve been getting together a couple of weekends each December ever since to make homemade gifts for our loved ones. Not only do we save a great deal of money, but crafting is also a relaxing hobby — and it means spending time with two of my favorite people.
If your holiday festivities include a gift exchange — and if you’re interested in crafting — consider making homemade gifts this year. You won’t believe how rewarding and relaxing it can be!
