Dear readers, If I can recycle and/or save a little money, I’m in my element. Here is a little project that will do both and only take about five minutes to make. Really. Only about five minutes, and you will use it over and over, and over, and well, you get the point.
First you must save those mesh bags that oranges, potatoes and other produce come in. I have a vase scrunched full of them as we eat a lot of those little oranges called Cuties. Yum! They are so good and easy to peel!
Here is how I do it: Cut the little metal pieces off the ends, lay the mesh out flat and start folding. Fold the cut sides in first to prevent raveling, and then just keep folding to the desired size you want. Mine are about 3 by 4 inches. You may need to pin it now and then as the mesh tends to get away from you. Then sew around it a couple times.
You can see by the photo that I didn’t even bother to change my thread to match. I keep one made of softer mesh (such as at the top) to swish the food off the dishes, and a sturdier one for pans. However, neither scratch.
I can guarantee that if you get tired of the round store-bought scrubbies always coming apart, you will love these as they last for months. Give it a try and tell me what you think!
