Some of my most precious memories are fishing at Toledo Bend in Louisiana with our friends, Don and Bythella.
All of us had gone to school together, and Don and my husband, Arnold, had been college roommates. We each had a son and a daughter, and everyone got along well.
One fishing trip in particular stands out in my mind. While fishing with friends, we were catching crappie left and right, and having a great time, until we ran out of bait. We had been using crickets, and while we were pondering whether to leave our lucky fishing spot to go get more bait, we heard the “chirp, chirp” of crickets.
Bythella had hidden several crickets in her pockets.
We teased her about it for years, then we decided “All’s fair when the fish are biting!”
