Over the last several months I have been making goat milk soap. I have so much milk that I really needed to do something with it, and I wasn’t thrilled with my cheese-making efforts. Soap was the most logical next step. I never really considered myself crafty, but making soap is more like cooking than crafting and I really enjoy it. I like to experiment with different essential oils but my soaps are lightly scented because those who know me well know I don’t like smelly things.
I recently sold my soaps at a local craft fair, which was so exciting for me. I haven’t gone to work in eight years so this was my chance to sell something that I had handmade all by myself. It was fun, and I can’t wait to do it again. While getting ready for my craft show, I did some research about the benefits of goat milk soap. Most winters my hands are so dry and raw that they hurt all the time. This winter is different as I have been using the soap. My hands, not to mention my face, are soft and feeling great. I attribute it to my soap, there is no other explanation.
Alpha hydroxy acids found in goat milk help to remove dead skin cells.
Vitamins A, E, C and B all help to nourish the skin and can help reduce lines and wrinkles.
Cream contains fat molecules that will moisturize the skin.
Minerals such as Selenium may reduce the risk of skin cancer.
It is known to help fight acne.
No artificial additives are good for people with sensitive skin.
These are just a few benefits of using goat milk soap. If you search the internet, there are so many more benefits to using goat milk on your skin as well as consuming it.
I think one of the most important benefits of using goat milk soap is that you are buying local. It is so important to support your local farmers or anyone for that matter. There is nothing better than buying something for yourself or a gift that is made in America.
Selling goat milk soap is my new journey in my hobby farming adventure. Right now I am selling locally but hoping to expand. It wasn’t too hard coming up with a name. Ginger-n-B Soaps are named after my momma and baby goats. Ginger gave me a lot of grief milking but I think it was all worth it. Little BG is so cute that he will be the face of my soaps. I can’t wait to try another craft fair in the near future and see what’s next. My soaps also made great teacher and neighbor gifts this year.
