Graduation day can be a bittersweet moment. Whether we graduate from high school, college, boot camp or summer camp, the experience provokes the same mixture of emotions – happiness at the completion of a difficult task, and sadness at saying goodbye to those who have shared the experience with us.
Change is a part of life, and the best thing we can do for ourselves is to learn to accept it and change along with it. When faced with an enormous change in life, remember the good times, but at the same time, learn to let go. Embrace the change and grow from the experience.
Fear is the biggest stumbling block against change, especially when it comes to graduation. Moving to the next level in life is a scary prospect. In high school, you knew where to go, what to do and who to be. After graduating, however, things are different, and uncertainty about the future causes anxiety. That’s when you need to draw on your faith.
You have to trust that you’ve reached the point in your life when you are ready for the next step. Believe that you have received the right instructions from your parents, your church and your school on how to be successful in life. Take a deep breath and step forward. The world is waiting for you.
Father, thank You for helping us to achieve the milestones in our lives. Give us the courage to embrace change as the next step in our growth. Help us keep You in our hearts with each step we take, and remind us that fear can never own us. Amen.
