Mercerized cotton is the perfect choice for washcloths — strong and mildew resistant, it will hold its shape through many washings. Here are two simple cloths with sweet stitch patterns.

Finished Measurements

Note: One skein will make three washcloths.

Each cloth is 6″/15 cm by 7″/18 cm

Materials

• Yarn: Classic Elite Yarns Provence, 100% Egyptian mercerized cotton, 205 yds (186 m)/3.75 oz (100 g), Color 2625 Rosa Rugosa 3

• Crochet Hook: US G/6 (4 mm) or size needed to obtain correct gauge

• Gauge: 20 stitches and 18 rows = 4″/10 cm in wave pattern; 16 stitches and 32 rows = 4″/10 cm in patchwork pattern

• Other Supplies: Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

st(s) = stitch(es)

FLsc = front loop single crochet

BLsc= back loop single crochet

Crocheting the Waves Washcloth

Chain 31.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each chain across, turn. (30 sc)

Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, *[skip 2 sc, 5 sc in next sc, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sc]; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Rows 7–30: Repeat Rows 5 and 6 twelve times.

Row 31: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 32: Ch 1, reverse sc in each st across.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Crocheting the Patchwork Washcloth

Chain 25.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (24 sc)

Rows 2–5: Ch 1, *[FLsc in next 4 sts, BLsc in next 4 sts]; repeat from * across, turn.

Rows 6–9: Ch 1, *[BLsc in next 4 sts, FLsc in next 4 sts]; repeat from * across, turn.

Rows 10–33: Repeat Rows 2–9 three more times.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.
