The wonderfully soft and absorbent cotton yarn used here is perfect for the bath. Slide your favorite soap into the mitt, wash baby, and use the towelette for rinsing or for drying.

Finished Measurements

• Mitt: 7″/18 cm circumference and 41/2″/11.5 cm tall

• Towelette: Approximately 9″/23 cm square

Materials

• Yarn: Classic Elite Yarns Sandpiper, 100 percent cotton, 114 yds (104 m)/1.75 oz (50 g), Color 1918 Faded Brick 4

• Crochet Hook: US J/10 (6 mm)or size needed to obtain correct gauge

• Gauge: 15 stitches and 13 rows = 4″/10 cm in Towelette pattern; 16 stitches and 16 rows = 4″/10 cm in Soap Mitt pattern

• Other Supplies: Yarn needle

Abbreviations

ch = chain

st(s) = stitch(es)

dc = double crochet

sc = single crochet

tr = treble crochet

WS = wrong side of work

RS = right side of work

rep = repeat

fsc =foundation single crochet. Begin with slip knot on hook, chain 2, insert hook in 2nd chain from hook, *[yarnover and pull up a loop through 1 loop (chain made)], **[yarnover and pull through 2 loops on hook (single crochet made)]. For each subsequent fsc, insert hook under 2 loops of chain at base of stitch just made; repeat from * to ** for desired length.

Pattern Essentials

Towelette Pattern (multiple of 2 stitches + 1, worked on fsc)

Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *[tr in next st, sc in next st]; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern.

Soap Mitt Pattern (multiple of 2 stitches + 1, worked on fsc)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, *[ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next st]; rep from * across, turn.

Repeat Row 1 for pattern.

Crocheting the Towelette

Fsc 33 (see abbreviations).

Work Rows 1 and 2 of Towelette pattern 14 times (28 rows). Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Crocheting the Soap Mitt

Fsc 25.

Work Row 1 of Soap Mitt pattern 20 times. Fasten off, leaving a sewing length.

With RS together, sew side and bottom seams, leaving foundation row open. Turn right side out. Cut two 16″/40.5 cm lengths of yarn. Thread doubled yarn onto yarn needle and thread the lengths in and out of fsc sts. Knot ends of doubled yarn. Insert soap, then cinch opening closed and secure with a bow knot.
