Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 stick butter
- 1⁄2 cup oil
- 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 eggs
- 1⁄2 cup chopped walnuts, optional
- Ice cream or whipped topping, optional
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease a jellyroll pan; set aside.
- Into a large bowl, sift flour, sugar, and cocoa. Whisk or mix with a fork to combine. Set aside.
- In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and oil to a boil. Pour over sifted ingredients, and beat with an electric mixer until creamy.
- Add buttermilk, baking soda, eggs, and walnuts, if using, and beat until thoroughly combined.
- Spread batter in prepared pan, and bake for about 18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
