Homemade barbecue baked beans in a rustic serving dish.

  • 8 to 10 servings

    Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef, cooked, optional
  • 1⁄4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 1 bottle (12 ounces) mesquite barbecue sauce
  • 1 can (31 ounces) pork and beans
  • Red bell pepper strips, optional

Directions

  • Heat oil in a large skillet. Add onion, and cook until partially tender, but not bron. Add beef, if using. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Simmer for 20 minutes.
