Yields 8 ounces SERVINGS

  • 3 tablespoons fresh marigold petals
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/8 teaspoon borax powder
  • 1 tablespoon grated beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
  • 1/2 cup almond oil

  • Place the fresh marigold petals in a ceramic dish and gently crush them to release the essence of the plant. Pour the boiling water over the petals, and let sit until cool, about 20 minutes.
  • Strain, and then stir the borax powder into the petal liquid, stirring constantly until the borax powder is completely dissolved.
  • In a heat-resistant pan or bowl, mix together the beeswax, cocoa butter, and almond oil. Gently warm the mixture in a water bath, or in the microwave, until the beeswax and cocoa butter are melted. (The water bath is made by filling a pan with an inch of water, and placing a glass jar containing the beeswax and cocoa butter in the pan.)
  • Gradually stir the borax and marigold flower infusion into the melted mixture, and continue heating and stirring until thoroughly blended. Or, if preferred, you can pour the entire mixture into a blender and blend on medium speed until combined.
  • Let the mixture cool completely. Give it one more good mix, and then pour it into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. To Use: Rub a small amount into your hands. For more homemade skin care, see: Natural Beauty from the Garden
