Ingredients
- 2 cups crushed cornflakes
- 1⁄4 cup diced onion
- 11⁄2 pounds lean ground beef
- Dash of salt and pepper
- 1 egg
- 2⁄3 cup applesauce
- 1⁄2 cup ketchup
- 1 cup tomato soup
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 21⁄2 cups tomato juice
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- In a large bowl, combine cornflakes, onion, ground beef, salt and pepper, egg, and applesauce. Mix well.
- Shape mixture into 11⁄2-inch balls. Place in two 9-inch cast-iron skillets, and set aside.
- In another large bowl, blend ketchup, tomato soup, water, and tomato juice. Pour over meatballs.
- Bake for about 1 hour, or until meatballs are cooked through and tomato sauce is thickened.
