A Letter from Kate: Furry Friends

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had animals in my life.

My first pet was a dog, and I loved her, but my sister and I really wanted a cat. Mom told us we couldn’t have a cat as long as we had a dog.

After we lost our dog, Mom then consented to let us have a cat. My sister and I each got a kitten. I’ve had cats ever since.

The cat I had growing up was my best friend. I raised him from a kitten, and I had him almost 14 years. It broke my heart when it came time to put him down.

I never thought another cat would penetrate my heart as much as he did, but I was wrong.

After not having a pet for about 12 years, I got a cat from a local shelter. She filled the void left by my other cat.

She was almost 15 when I had to have her put down, and again, I was devastated.

Fortunately, I had four other cats to soften the blow. Those four are still with me, and they are a great source of entertainment and comfort.

I think the sweetest sound in the whole world is the purring of a cat. Hearing that sound and holding one of my cats helps melt away the stress and worries of the day.

I’m very much a cat lover. I like dogs, but I love cats. My cats are a joy to me, and I thank the Lord for their companionship.
